HOMELAND | News from Portugal

Triennale have been invited three times by Direcção Geral das Artes to cooperate in official representations in the most relevant international Architecture Biennales. For the 14th International Biennale of Venice curated by Rem Koolhaas, the Portuguese official representation attempted an unconventional exhibition instrument: a newspaper.

As requested by Secretário de Estado da Cultura – Direcção Geral das Artes, Trienale took leadership in Homeland | News from Portugal’s production, commissioned by Pedro Campos Costa.
The Pavilhão de Portugal, strategically located in Arsenal, was the chosen space to the presentation and free distribution of the first three editions. Since July to November of 2014, Homeland, News from Portugal shown original content as an answer to Rem Koolhaas’ challenge: “Fundamentals – Absorving Modernity: 1914-2014. Homeland put in perspective housing, a field that tends to be used to architecture experiments and is a key element in understanding urban and territorial buildings and its inhabitants.

6 groups of architects were elected to portray 6different housing types/concepts: temporary, casual, detached, collective, rural and rehabilitation. Each typology focused in one of the following cities: Porto, Matosinhos, Loures, Lisboa, Setúbal and Évora.
