Lisboa Open House exceeds all expectations: 13.918 visits in 2 days

The first edition of Lisboa Open House registered an enthusiastic response from the public, with fully booked guided tours and massive turnouts at each of the 54 participating spaces. In view of this extraordinary demand, the officials of many spaces tripled the maximum number of visitors allowed, held additional guided tours and extended visiting hours.

The 10.000 visits initially and optimistically predicted for the event were surpassed by 39% , with non-specialists making up for the largest share of visitors. This means Lisboa Open House fulfilled one of its main goals: to foster the public’s appreciation for the city’s urban environment through direct experience and the sharing of information.

Of different ages and interests, the heterogeneous audience also included tourists in the Portuguese capital and architecture students from all over the country. Considering the success of the first edition and the feedback from visitors and building owners/managers, the Lisboa Architecture Triennale is planning the return of the event in 2013. Research is already underway to find new buildings and sponsorships are also actively being pursued.

The Triennale would like to thank all the visitors, volunteers and owner, to whom the success of Lisboa Open House is owed.
