An architect as well as an architecture critic, Luís Santiago Baptista gained a Doctorate in the History of Contemporary Art (FCSH-UNL) and a Master’s degree in Contemporary Architectural Culture from the FAUTL (Faculty of Architecture of the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa). His research interests include the fields of urbanism, architecture, design, and art, with particular attention being paid to the connections between creative activity and contemporary cultural, intellectual, and production conditions. Between 1999 and 2003, he was guest assistant lecturer at the Department of History and Phenomenology at FAUTL – the Faculty of Architecture of the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa. He has given lectures and seminars at various institutions and has been published regularly in domestic and international magazines and books. Since 2006, he has been the editor of the art and architecture magazine arq/a, with which he has collaborated since 2001. He was a member of the commissariat of the exhibition Habitar Portugal 2006-2008, and is the commissioner of the geração z cycle of events and the co-commissioner of the Portuguese representation at the exhibition Norte-Sul, which forms part of the 2nd Lisbon Architecture Triennale of 2010. His professional career is laboratorial in nature, and includes various built projects and others that are under development.
