Making Buildings: 2003 – 2013

Operating pre to post crisis OMA partner Ellen van Loon will discuss the process of building OMA’s projects, how it has changed and how it has remained the same.

Ellen van Loon

In 1998 Ellen van Loon has joined OMA, a studio which encompasses some of the most iconic modern buildings in the world, including the award-winning Casa da Música in Portugal (RIBA Prize 2007). Several of her projects combine sophisticated design with precise execution such as the Rothschild Bank headquarters, Maggie's Centre near Glasgow and the Dutch Embassy in Berlin, (winner of the Mies van der Rohe award in 2005). Her specific expertise is grounded in the balance of business acumen and an in-depth understanding of all technical and operational aspects.

Pedro Baía (Coimbra, 1980)

Editorial coordinator of Circo de Ideias, where he edited the following books: Koolhaas Tangram (Circo, 2014) and Berlin: Critical Reconstruction (Circo, 2008). He is a visiting professor at the Architecture School of the University of Minho since 2014. He was the architecture editor of Artecapital (2008-2015) and from 2013 to 2015 collaborated with Jornal Arquitectos. Pedro obtained his PhD in architecture in 2014 with the thesis From Broadcast to Reception: Reflections of Team 10 in the Portuguese Architectural Culture 1951-1981.
