Matter for Future Excavation

Matter for Future Excavation is an exhibition that looks at the city and interrogates it, as a gesture of excavating the matter of which it is made, in order to reveal its different overlapping strata, the less visible configurations of its tracing and thus unravel the tensions that run through it. The exhibition brings together artists with different languages and forms of expression whom, through photography, moving image, sound and word, reflect and reformulate the experience of time and the spatiality of the city. The works were motivated by a series of walks in the eastern part of Lisbon, guided by three conceptual images, «fifth-façade», «city-image» and «threshold».

Talk around Matter for Future Excavation

To round off the exhibition Matter for Future Excavation, this talk with the curators and artists of the exhibited works will focus on how the exhibition questions and reshapes the city geographies and their temporality, through photography, moving image, sound and words . We will debate and reflect upon the different views of the city, the images produced and the spatialities reinvented in the works you can see in the exhibition, questioning the issues that focus on the authors’ positioning in relation to the object of their art.
