Trienal de Arquitectura de Lisboa

Launch of the Biennale Pavilions platform for its 17th edition

After one year of pandemic constraint, the 17th edition of the Venice Architecture Biennale has finally arrived, curated by Lebanese architect Hashim Sarkis. In this context, the official national representations and some participating cultural agents, such as the Lisbon Architecture Triennale, have joined forces to provide a remote programme, whence the idea came up to design a digital platform where visitors could experience the multiple answers to the question asked by the general curator How can we live together?

Assuming a truly hybrid character for this 17th edition, on May 13, 2021 the portal biennalepavilions.com is launched, thus broadening the audience of the most important architectural event on the cultural agenda, even to those who cannot travel to La Serenissima. This Biennale features 115 responses from around the world, all stemming from a collective will to change the status quo, bringing together people facing the same issues to participate in a vital exchange of ideas.

The activities of the Portuguese Official Representation In Conflict, commissioned by the Portuguese Directorate-General for the Arts, and curated by the depA studio and assistant curator Miguel Santos, is part of this online calendar of events in an open programme platform. The Lisbon Triennale was present in the working group that created the platform, mostly made up of commissioners from the national pavilions, and supports its dissemination in order to make the innovative responses to the challenge get to more people.
