For the second time, the Lisbon Triennale has received a grant from the Graham Foundation to help make one of the exhibitions that are part of the 2019 Triennale. The Graham Foundation supports “Economy of Means”, a show curated by Éric Lapierre, our chief-curator that will be housed by MAAT, and will open October 2019. The 5th edition of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale will have as a theme, “The Poetics of Reason”.

“Economy of Means” investigates what makes this category both a mark and a precondition of a rational architecture. Drawing on a large number of historical and contemporary examples, the exhibition will propose a typology of the ways in which the economy of means has exerted itself so far, and inquire about those it might choose to explore today.

This was one of the 53 awarded projects, selected from over 200 proposals. The projects support “work that continues to advocate for engaging original ideas that advance our understanding of the designed environment”. Grantee organizations hail from cities such as Bogotá, Istanbul, Johannesburg, London, Mexico City, Montréal, Los Angeles, New York, Portland, San Francisco, and Chicago, where the Graham Foundation is based.

In 2016, the publications of The Form of Form Triennale got the support of the American foundation that finances “innovative projects led by eminent and emerging architects, artists, curators, filmmakers, historians, and publishers, among other professionals”.
