Help us re-use bags for Terra
The problem…
Winged cotton bags (also called "cotton tote bags") emerged as a response to the overuse of single-use plastic bags and have become a trend among environmentally aware people. Despite mitigating the impact of plastic, the increasingly frequent use of this product is creating a new problem: a single bag of organic cotton needs to be used more than 50 years before it can make up for the impact of production! Cotton leaves a huge water footprint in its processing and cannot be composted. Converting old fabric into new fabric also bears a high energy footprint, in part due to the fact that prints are not recyclable.
Our solution:
The Triennale 2022 is focused on solutions for a more sustainable planet and that's why the cotton totes we want to offer are used bags, with a previous life. We will transform them with an intervention alluding to the event, designed by the Lisbon-based studio Barbara Says, in charge of the identity of the 6th edition. And this is how a unique limited-run collection is born.
Get involved!
Do you have spare or unused cotton bags at home? Then you can be part of this circular economy model and donate them to the Triennale so that we can gather raw material for the creation of the Triennale 2022 bags. We count on you!
During the opening period of the exhibition In Conflict, from February 4 to April 30 at Palácio Sinel de Cordes (Tuesday to Saturday), we have a container in the palace where you can drop your used tote bags. If you’re coming to the exhibition, enjoy it and help the planet. If you're bringing bags, take the opportunity to enjoy the exhibition that represented Portugal at the Venice Biennale. It’s a win-win deal!
If you can't visit us, you can send them to our address: Lisbon Triennale, Campo de Santa Clara 142, 1100-474 Lisbon.
