First edition of AA Visiting School Lisbon at Triennale's HQ
The Architectural Association (AA) for the first time open its Visiting School program to architecture students and young professionals to study in Lisbon.
To be held over 11 days, the Architectural Association’s Visiting School Lisbon (AAVSLX), organised in collaboration with the Lisbon Architecture Triennale, will introduce participants to the AA’s unique methods of teaching and learning by bringing an international group of students together with highly accomplished teachers to explore a city often overlooked.
The AAVSLX programme consists of tutorials, a creative project, research into selected urban sites, lectures, and a final presentation with a guest panel. Students will receive training in advanced skills such as parametric modelling, currently at the forefront of innovation in architecture and crucial to professional competitiveness in the near future. AAVSLX Director, João Bravo da Costa said “The training will expand beyond technical skills to place new ideas and knowledge in the context of the city and its real questions, based on the conviction that real questions and real problems provide the strongest stimulus for meaningful innovation”.
About the AA
Unique, dynamic, independent and international, the Architectural Association School of Architecture was originally set up in 1847 as a public forum and learned society, and has since been a home to such world-leading architects as Rem Koolhaas, Zaha Hadid, Richard Rogers, and Peter Cook. The AA is much more than the UK’s oldest school of architecture; the school is the nexus of a global conglomeration of contemporary architectural culture, encompassing publications and public events.
