LINA Conference: Alliances for a Resourceful City
Taking place in Copenhagen (Denmark), the World Capital of Architecture in 2023, the programme is hosted by the Royal Danish Academy under the title Alliances for a Resourceful City. Humanity is vastly exceeding its planetary boundaries: the ways in which we inhabit our planet are due for an immediate and radical change. In this environmental emergency, architects are called to take the lead. The contemporary city is the focal site where architecture should tackle environmental sustainability issues.
Can we transform contemporary urbanity into a sustainable, post-extractivist metropolitan area? How can we organise our cities around sustainable mobility and efficient food supply? Can we intervene in the infrastructure that supports our excessive way of living? LINA community – an alliance of architectural organisations and emerging professionals and thinkers – asks: can we create more resilient cities, focused on de-growth?
It is from this gathering that all members take part in a new wave of activities throughout the year, including residencies, installations, research workshops, lectures, exhibitions, and publications taking place all around Europe. The Lisbon Triennale team is travelling to the Danish capital ready to select fellows ready to embark on a Periple Duet in collaboration with Croatian member Dai Sai, or to curate an exhibition co-produced with VI PER gallery.
On the first day, the conference features the 28 up-and-coming spatial practitioners that have just been selected at the annual open call from a record number of 550 applications. The next day, editor and curator Nick Axel presents a State of Architecture address, followed by focus talks by designer and educator Keller Easterling, Camilla van Deurs (Chief City Architect for the City of Copenhagen), and researcher Phil Ayres. The invitees participate in a roundtable with policy officer of the European Commision Jutta Kastner.
Open to the public and free of charge, it is also streamed live on the LINA YouTube channel and e-flux. Produced by the LINA platform in collaboration with Copenhagen Architecture Festival and co-funded by the EU.
