Atelier of Ventura Trindade

Near Avenida da Liberdade, an ensemble of three buildings is designed by Joaquim Norte Júnior, between 1920 and 1940, establishing a transition from early 20th century romantic decorativism to a stately modernist formal clean-up. Taking advantage of the inner urban block, the first building designed configures a semi-public passageway that connects Rua Rodrigues Sampaio to Rua Camilo Castelo Branco, constituting a peculiar crossing. In 2013, the Atelier of Ventura Trindade acquires the warehouse located at the ground floor of this residential building, turning it into its new facilities. The space has a square plan and is heavily marked by the presence of the structure of concrete beams and pillars, organizing the atelier’s various work areas. The project consisted in resuming the openings towards the patio and improving the old warehouse’s infrastructure, though preserving the way one sees it, in accordance to its foundational matrix.
