About the Place
The layout of this typical apartment in Bairro Lopes, a modernist but modest and relatively unknown residential area next to Alto de São João, presented the main challenges of this renovation. In order to improve the narrow, elongated morphology, the succession of small, dark rooms along the corridor was expanded, opening up the rooms to the other spaces and creating a cohesive spatiality in which ambiences merge and experiences overlap. The fluid, sequential circulation follows the path of the sun, leading from the private area in the east to the social area at the rear. Here, the kitchen establishes a direct link with the garden, extending the interior space outwards.
