House in Avenidas Novas

  • Interventions:
  • Camarim Arquitectos
  • (2024)

Located at the western end of Avenidas Novas, and owned by the same family for three generations, this house bears witness to the dense expansion of a network of blocks across a rural landscape dotted with palaces, such as the neighbouring Palácio do Marquês de Sá da Bandeira. Built in the 1930s and profoundly transformed in the 1980s, it has recently undergone further work, expanding it and reconnecting it with the garden and the street. With the aim of revealing the house’s three distinct periods simultaneously, a spatial progression was created, ranging from the robust base to the slender ‘loggia’. In the kitchen, with its contemporary design and materials, certain elements are highlighted through the use of the same wood that identifies and emphasises the uniqueness of other elements in the house.
