House in Avenidas Novas

  • Interventions:
  • Camarim Arquitectos
  • (em construção)

This house at the western end of Avenidas Novas, owned by the same family for three generations, clearly evidences the dense expansion of a network of blocks over a rural territory punctuated by palaces – such as Palácio do Marquês de Sá da Bandeira, next to it. Built in the 1930s and profoundly transformed in the 1980s, it is currently undergoing a new intervention to prepare it for the third generation, expanding the house and remaking its connection to the garden and street. The existing construction is maintained, raising its height to the cornice of the adjacent building. In order to reveal the three times of the house simultaneously, a progression was worked out that goes from the strong base to the slender ‘loggia’. By superimposing and working on the old elevations, a guiding layout was reached to revive the uniqueness of each element within the same compositional structure.
