House in Avenidas Novas
- Interventions:
- Camarim Arquitectos
- (2024)
This house at the western edge of the Avenidas Novas, owned by the same family for three generations, stands as a clear testament to the dense expansion of a network of city blocks over a once rural territory punctuated by palaces—such as the Palácio do Marquês de Sá da Bandeira next door. Built in the 1930s and extensively transformed in the 1980s, it has now undergone a new intervention that has prepared it for the third generation, expanding the house and rearticulating its relationship with the garden and the street. The existing structure has been preserved, with its height raised to align with the cornice of the adjacent building. With the aim of revealing the house’s three distinct periods simultaneously, a progression was developed that moves from the robust base to the slender loggia. By overlaying and working upon the original façades, a regulating framework was established that reactivates the singularity of each element within a unified compositional structure.
