About the Place
Hidden away in a cellar space in a very nondescript area on the western edge of Lisbon lies a space made for meditation. Two doors mark the different programmes of the building in question: one provides private access to the living quarters, the other opens onto a succession of spaces at different levels on a descending course that ends on a veranda overlooking Monsanto forest park – the Meditation Centre. Lighting is a decisive element in creating the various interior ambiences and erasing the boundary between interior and exterior. The meditation space allows the exterior landscape and the half-shade of the interior spaces to coexist in a shared place.
