About the Place
This centre was the first facility in Continental Europe that combined meeting spaces for Ismaili Muslims with the installations of an international social, cultural and economic development network for people of all faiths, backgrounds and origins. Built around a number of patios, the buildings integrate multi-use spaces and open areas designed for social functions and cultural and educational events. The design, a rare example of Islam-inspired architecture in Portugal, nods to the geometric patterns in traditional Muslim arts while allying contemporary building techniques and local materials.
