About the Place
The building occupies a corner in Rua dos Douradores, with a partial facade to the south into the widening of the Rua de Santa Justa. Taking advantage of this corner position and considering the precarious structural and infrastructural condition of the edifice, the number of apartments per floor had to be reformulated. The project kept the division of spaces and their succession along the building’s axis. The first phase of the structural reconstruction disclosed frescoes on the walls and ceilings. These decorative elements were salvaged and analysed. Therefore, the infrastructures had to be relocated behind the ceilings and floors. Ultimately, this restoration project demonstrates the complexity and diversity of the successive interventions in the building.
