About the Place
This is an important project by Carrilho da Graça, a return to a critical perspective on modernism and the main lines of research that are present in his work. The territory appears as a starting point, a basis for analytical and rational reading, in which the project is anchored and on which it reveals itself. The work, selected through a public call for proposals, reinvents the site by articulating conflicting spatial dimensions. Situated on a ridge line, the space is designed for its functions, and a square allows rooms and offices to open up to light and silence. It creates a dialogue with the adjacent highway through the design of the two orthogonal bodies, in which the mural dimension of the built front is manipulated in mimicry and contrast with the pre-existing topography.
