- (2017)
The 25 de Abril Bridge was inaugurated in 1966 and boosted greater metropolitan growth on the south bank of the Tagus. By the time of its construction, it was the largest suspension bridge in Europe and today it still is one of the largest road-rail suspension bridges in the world. The Pilar 7 Bridge Experience project was designed by Infraestruturas de Portugal in partnership with the Lisbon Tourism Association. Partly funded by revenues from the Lisbon City Council Tourist Tax, the interpretation centre reveals the bridge’s construction history, images and facts, and provides a panoramic lift going up to the road deck level, with access to an outside viewpoint. The visit also includes the entrance inside the central block of Pilar 7, where you can see the original model of the bridge and the moorings of part of the steel cables that support it, among instances of infographics and virtual reality.
