Located in Bom Sucesso in Lisbon, an area called after a monastery of the same name, this building is part of an urban industrial complex. Around 1820, the National Steam Machine Factory was installed, later becoming the Bom Sucesso Milling Factory. In the 1920s, the factory infrastructures transferred to Companhia Industrial de Portugal e Colónias, which operated there for more than 10 years, before being purchased by Lisbon City Council. Following a fire in 1972 in the ateliers of the former Independence Pavilion for the Exhibition of the Portuguese World, several artists moved to the former warehouse block. In 2001 the city council reached an agreement with the sculptor Lagoa Henriques, a guardian, for the creation of a museum-studio in Warehouse B, currently occupied by the gallery.
