Galeria Quadrum

  • Original Authors:
  • Fernando Peres Guimarães
  • (1971)

The realisation of a dream by the artist and collector Dulce D’Agro, the Quadrum gallery had its opening exhibition in November 1973. Installed in the Coruchéus palace and designed by Fernando Peres, Quadrum became a laboratory for Portuguese experimental art in the 1970s and 80s. It featured important Portuguese artists such as Alberto Carneiro, Ana Hatherly, Ernesto de Sousa and Helena Almeida, as well as the international artists Vasarely, Gina Pane, Ulrike Rosenbach and Dany Bloch. After a period in which it was closed, Quadrum reopened under the management of EGEAC. Today, as part of the Coruchéus art studio complex, it remains a space of experimentation on and for contemporary art.
