Integrated into the Unicorn Factory Lisboa, the Beato Innovation District was born from the transformation of the former Military Maintenance factories, originally established in 1897 to supply food to the Portuguese Army—the last to close was the Bread Factory, in 2011. Infrastructure works, outdoor areas, and improvements to the surrounding public space were carried out by the City Council. The ongoing renovation of the various buildings is being undertaken by the public or private entities to whom they have been granted. Soon to open is the building that will house Casa Capitão, a project dedicated to innovation in music and cultural programming—a new stage for emerging artists.
