The Beato Creative Hub aims to rehabilitate the urban fabric by restoring the city’s industrial heritage. The municipality takes advantage of the new polarities introduced by the Expo complex and the new bridge to support the regeneration of the Beato and the Marvila neighbourhoods. Founded in 1897, the Military Maintenance arose in the eastern zone of Lisbon as a large-scale industrial project promoted by the Portuguese Army, to produce supplies for the troops. Several food production factories were built and kept in production for over 100 years, and the industrial complex was expanded up to 30,000 square meters. The last factory closed in 2011, but all its machinery was kept in excellent operating condition. Currently, the renovation of the infrastructures for the buildings and the refurbishment of the external areas is in progress. The eighteen buildings of the compound will become offices, restaurants, creative hubs, company headquarters, a museum and a housing complex.
