The former Oficina Naval da Sociedade dos Catraeiros de Lisboa (the name derives from “catraia” – a type of small fishing boat) is an industrial building with distinctly modernist features, built to work as a workshop for the boatmen of Lisbon’s port. In 2020, fully restored, it opened as the new cluster of Fundação Serra Henriques, dedicated to cultural exhibitions, conferences, and art workshops. The renovation to adapt it to its new function managed to maintain the space’s original structure without erasing its representative character in a village that played a relevant role in the riverside dynamics until the second half of the twentieth century.
