Set in a former farming estate, this huge rural property has been in constant operation and has been the object of interventions for centuries. The current palace, an architectural complex from the 18th century predominantly in a neo-Classical style, was erected by the first Duke of Lafões after the earthquake of 1755. It was based on a family summer residence, a palatial structure on a smaller scale and also small in terms of importance, which in turn was based on old support constructions for agricultural production, where the origins become lost in time. Of the initial design, one still finds the L-shaped main body, with the northern facade facing the farming estate and the main facade facing the gardens. Many additions were made to the building, but the original plans were never completed, as it was an idea that was abandoned in the early 19th century; this remains the case today.
