The White Pavilion

One of the five municipal galleries managed by EGEAC – Cultura em Lisboa, to promote and publicise the visual arts. It was built in the gardens of Palácio Pimenta – a former holiday farm and now the City Museum – specifically to be an exhibition space for contemporary art. It is a two-storey structural triptych, symmetrical and generously glazed to the north and east, located at one end of the garden, away from the street and noise. Smooth finishing touches, and shades of white, were chosen for both the self-levelling floor and the painted walls. The building hosts exhibitions that are specifically designed to challenge its context and spatial dimensions, and the curatorial programme allows for longer assembly times and exhibition durations.
