The oldest building of this complex was the former headquarters of DIALAP, a diamond cutting industry, displaying an unprecedented modernist language and a high degree of functionality. With the objective of becoming the headquarters of RTP (Portuguese National Radio and Television), it was fully rehabilitated and expanded, thus including studios, newsrooms, technical and administrative areas. The enlargement of the complex is subdivided into production areas and functional areas, in which the strong, highly sophisticated technical-operational component is emphasized. Within the complex, with clear geometry and clean walls, one can distinguish three volumes of manifest formal purity, contrasting with the diverse context of its urban surroundings. The arrangement of these three volumes is marked by the legibility of the constructive elements, which show the different functions that organize the interior. A total of three volumes that work as referential elements of the new studios. Green areas were addressed in a homogeneous way and the terrain modelling mends the adjacent heights with those of the roofings. This project was an Honorable Mention of the 2009 Valmor Prize.
