Headquarters of Fundação Millennium bcp
- (1992 reabilitação)
The foundation premises are part of a typical but renovated block in Lisbon’s Pombaline Baixa district and occupy a considerable amount of surface area. The Pombaline façade was maintained and recovered, as well as part of the supporting walls and the remarkable brickwork vaulted ceilings resting on stone pillars that define the ground floors of these buildings. The remodelling project showcases important archaeological finds on the site. The airwell space remains a defining element, with the addition of a translucent roof creating diverse visual links and bridges, and structuring the occupation and functioning of the building as a unit. The new architectural elements are visually discreet but also mark a clear distinction from the materials of the original building.
