Vale de Alcântara – Expansion of the Metro Network

Alcântara and its valley have always been a city area undergoing major transformations where infrastructures become visible, from the layout of the aqueduct in the 18th century, to the road structures of Duarte Pacheco in the 20th century, or the passage of the railroad, and more recently the location of an unobtrusive wastewater treatment plant. This area, apparently orderly and full of functions, nevertheless remains a space of opportunity and expansion for Lisbon; maybe not with buildings, but with meanings and connections. At the present time, another major public infrastructure is under study – the extension of the Metro network – and with it a new station and intermodal connection that will transform the neighbourhood and the city.
