Vila Romão da Silva

  • Interventions:

  • (em construção (reabilitação))

Built in 1889, this ‘vila’ in Campolide is one of the city’s historic courtyards (‘pátios’), and it has served as workers’ accommodation since 1870. The ongoing renovation aims to preserve this memory and enhance community life without displacing them, serving the goals of seismic resistance, accessibility , thermal comfort and environmental sustainability. 25 homes are renovated and five built from scratch, all with affordable rents, and the existence of the independent theatre group ‘O Palmo e Meio’ and the recreational association ‘Sport Clube e Amoreiras’ are safeguarded. Urban elements such as the private patio in the interior and the public street, previously disconnected, are part of the spatial continuity solution, which reveals, without intruding, a well-kept secret, opening up possibilities of enjoyment for those who live here.
