People and Items from all Over the World
by: Filomena Silvano
Synopsis — Portuguese only
Between the squares of Figueira, Martim Moniz and Chile, we find things and people from many places in the world. Instead of just looking at the cityscape (which we also do), we can experience it through the practices that, since time immemorial, connect humans wit each other. An attitude that is more performative than contemplative, if you will. The tour is punctuated by stops to eat, drink, look at and buy small things. Whether selling or making them, we encounter people. The human, cultural and ethnic diversity found here is unique in Lisbon. That’s why traversing these spaces is to engage with material and culinary cultures very close to us. However, for that to happen, one must decide to seek them out.
