Ar.Co - Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual

The former Xabregas Market, built in 1956 to a modernist design, now houses the Ar.Co Art and Visual Communication School. The remodelling project adopted a new idiom, with steps and ramps in concrete, steel grid rails and elements in painted steel sheeting reflecting the choices made to redesign and revitalise the space. Where once fresh produce was sold, now Photography, Painting, Drawing, Illustration/Comic, Jewellery, Cinema, and Art History and Theory classes are given. This project is part of the overall plan to transform this part of East Lisbon into a new urban and cultural hub.
