Fernanda Fragateiro Studio

  • Original Authors:
  • José Daniel Santa-Rita
  • (1974)

Located in a neighbourhood of modern expansion, more residential in nature, in Lisbon, the studio of the artist Fernanda Fragateiro is part of a group of Municipal Studios in Olivais Sul. There are four studios, all structurally identical and built in pairs side by side, belonging to the City Council. They were designed in the early 1970s to stimulate artistic output in the city. The creative microcosms promote proximity between the artists, thus incentivising their work, creativity and dissemination. The interior space is created partially by the use of a basement level in order to create the high ceiling deemed necessary. The large entrance facing north allows for the entry of ideal light to the work area. This nucleus contains the more spacious studies featuring 8 metre-high ceilings, an office and a patio.
