Casa das Galeotas - Casa da América Latina and UCCLA

This building is located near the river between Rua da Junqueira and Avenida da Índia, on a practically flat site facing land reclaimed from the river in the late 19th/early 20th century. Its occupation by two distinct entities – headquarters of the Casa da América Latina and the UCCLA (Union of Portuguese Speaking Capital Cities) – has resulted in a specific design programme that includes a cafeteria and an exhibition area with an auditorium. The remodelling project has unified a group of diverse neighbouring structures that expanded over time: a warehouse from the 18th century, a 19th century building and another structure from the early 20th century.
