This was one of the pilot schools in the Parque Escolar programme. Located in the east of Lisbon between the Chelas and Olivais Sul neighbourhoods, the Dom Dinis school was for many years the only secondary school in this part of the city. It originally consisted of a number of pavilions dispersed on the site and interlinked by means of covered external walkways. That design solution goes back to the 1970s and arose out of a need to mass produce school buildings; the model could be copied independent of the region and the site topography. The new solution proposed a building housing the administration offices and services and shared spaces that brings together the school community, while at the same time meandering to integrate the various pavilions dispersed about the site.
