A visit to this space located on the slope below the castle becomes a journey back in time to the early 1st century AD. The museum’s activities centre on the discovery and interpretation of the remains of the Roman Theatre, which was abandoned in the 4th century AD and rediscovered during the reconstruction work after the 1755 earthquake. Fastforward to the 21st century and the creation of a small museological nucleus that has since grown and is now part of the Museum of Lisbon and its wider scope. Along the visitor course, which begins with a surprising tour of the city, the journey through time reveals the Roman ruins and other spaces taken under the museum’s wing such as a 17th-century building and a large industrial space from the late 19th century.
