As a new hub for residential areas, services and cultural activities, Parque das Nações also attracted many companies and their head offices, becoming an important business area in the city. The Vodafone Portugal head office building is a landmark in business architecture in Lisbon. It is the result of a design competition, a modus operandi frequently used for public works, which goes some way to explaining the importance of this work and the changes in the structure of the commission in Portugal. The design created simple but strong forms that can communicate imagetically, but also proposed spaces whose design meaning and the way they are interconnected allows for sensorially active communication. The building plays with transparencies and barely visible boundaries between the public and private spaces. It consists of two large parallelepipeds that form a semi-public square in the middle and are linked by an arm/bridge that spans a distance of 53 metres and houses the company management. The entrance is a wall/beam in white concretes that partially forms the building’s structure. The building was the Valmor Prize-winner in 2005.
