FUSO - Anual de Videoarte Internacional de Lisboa is back in August 25-29, 2021. Created in 2009, it is the only festival with a continuous national and international video art programme that shows video works crossing with visual arts, performance, cinema, literature, and digital media in cloisters and gardens of museum spaces in Lisbon.
The Palácio Sinel de Cordes hosts the session on August 27, “Lenguas de Fuego - Sexodissident counter-narratives to the colonial wound”, by Agustín Pérez Rubio, moderated by Vítor Belanciano. Based on a text by Gloria Anzaldúa (1942-2004) considered by many as the seminal work of queer decolonial studies, the programme title, like the author's work, emphasises colonial hegemonic powers and renews the struggle against them. The session brings together five video works: Schreber is a Woman (El Palomar), What has no Room is Everywhere (Jota Mombaça), La Vuelta de la Malona, (Verena Melgarejo Weinandt), Crudo (Bartolina Xixa) and The Night Without Moon (Castiel Vitorino Brasileiro).
"At the border" is FUSO 2021’s theme. Physical and digital, geographical and political, borders are associated with contradictory ideas of belonging and exclusion, freedom and restriction, protection and defense, and the festival challenges curators and artists to think upon contemporary borders promoting discussions about nationalism, identity, privacy, physical barriers, rebellion, emancipation, conquest and what's on the fringe, through video art.
FUSO is a DuplaCena production with artistic direction by Jean-François Chougnet. Learn more about the festival and check out the complete schedule on the FUSO page
