Embracing the city’s cultural and social fabric, students engage in cross-cultural collaboration, applying their arsenal of previously acquired knowledge, methods, and skills to work alongside real partners in their hosting city. Each team dedicates its expertises to work on self-chosen projects during eight weeks, with regeneration as the common thread.
Besides providing the Outpost’s headquarters, the Triennale’s cultural centre – Sinel de Cordes Palace – is one of the case studies developed by a group of residents. Their aim is to enhance protocols for a more sustainable and regenerative relationship with creative companies, educational organisations, tourists and the public at large.
Other case studies were Equal Food (a startup to minimise food waste); Factory, an innovation hub mixing technology, science, design and art; Hortas lx with Active Learning School Aprendizes; the Salvation Army; Último Recurso, responsible for Portugal’s first climate litigation case; and Social Explorers, a group mapping the social impact of initiatives in Lisbon and building synergies across different sectors.
Kaospilot's educational philosophy centres on developing world leaders, entrepreneurs, and change-makers who seek to disrupt the status quo. Its pedagogical approach is to create a dynamic interplay between students and participants aspirations, learning objectives, projects and lecturers and trainers responsible for its design. This approach is grounded around four pillars: developing new perspectives through experimentation; goal-oriented exploration rooted in reality; learning from first-hand experience; and empowering students by encouraging initiative. Interdisciplinary, it fuses elements from both business and design schools, and draws upon project management, organisational development, and design thinking. This method thrives when theory, action and reflection merge in practice.
Founded in 1991, Kaospilot has been recognised as one of the world’s top ten schools for innovation and entrepreneurship. With over 30 years of experience in educating future leaders, the school offers various international management programmes and courses covering project management, process management, leadership, communication, co-creation, experience design, and business development. All courses undergo testing in projects set by some of the most prominent Danish companies such as Carlsberg, Grundfos, Novo Nordisk, and LEGO.
