The Architectural Thinking School for Children is an educational project that was born in Belarus, founded by Alexander Novikov and Elena Karpilova, which we now host in Portugal also under their coordination.
Based on the practice of workshops, the project uses the “architectural thinking” methodology, which seeks to provide children and adolescents with a systemic thinking model for learning based on architectural work. In line with our public service mission, the programme starts with a summer school aimed at children and adolescents aged 5 to 15.
The series of workshops starts on July 19 and runs until August 27. The sessions, which follow a modular programme, take place at the Palace and aim to introduce children to this architectural thinking, so that it can be used as a tool for understanding the modern global world. Recreational, linguistic and communicative components are added to this learning, as well as the involvement of the family in the development of activities that are presented to the collective in the form of expository projects.

Founded in 2016, the Architectural Thinking School for Children works as a complementary education institution with an innovative pedagogical approach. It has adopted the architectural working process as a model, as it encompasses a wide range of expertise and skills: research, use of knowledge from totally different disciplines, project design and public presentations. The systems thinking of this professional community is what they call “architectural thinking”.
