Filomena is at the re-opening programme of the Cineclube de Guimarães

After the presentation at the Open House Worldwide festival in November 2020, the film Filomena arrives at the Cineclube de Guimarães by invitation from the Shortcutz GMR organisation, on the return of these film sessions to this Cinema Club on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 starting at 9 pm. This special session with free admission features four Portuguese short films in this equipment’s event room located in the city centre, in the iconic square Largo da Misericórdia where the Church and Casa da Misericórdia can be found, as well as the Court of Appeal.

One of the programme's titles is Pedro Cabeleira’s Filomena, commissioned by the Triennale in 2018 as a part of the Lisbon Acts project. The story of this short film takes place in six contemporary spaces that punctuate the city of Lisbon, a gigantic tower, a bar in a raised garden, an intervention at a river boat terminal, a meditation and yoga centre, a chapel, and a private apartment. Filomena, played by Sandra Hung, travels through these distinct spaces that seem to put her inner dilemmas in perspective.

The 14-minute short film follows the domestic worker during a day that appears to be just another working day. But after having lunch with a special person and spending the afternoon cleaning with Vanessa, a young chatty colleague, we realise that, beneath the skin, Filomena hides a romantic who does not take love for granted.

Shortcutz Guimarães is a showcase of short films with a monthly competitive section of Portuguese cinema and special sessions dedicated to international and children’s cinema, which integrates the international platform Labz Network since 2016 and manages the activity of the Cineclube de Guimarães. Founded in 1958, this venue has had a meritorious journey, having recently reached the position of Cinema Club with most spectators, with an average of 6 thousand per year.
