Trienal de Arquitectura de Lisboa

Universities Competition is now showcased in Sines

The exhibition that resulted from the 4th edition of the Millennium bcp Lisbon Triennale Universities Award Competition is now presented at Centro de Artes de Sines in the South of Lisbon.

With a new contextualization of the territory by the curator, Rui Mendes, this showcase represents an Atlas of architecture for Sines that Lisbon Triennale, in partnership with the Sines City Council, being introduced now to those who inhabit this territory. Sharing this body of reflection developed by the Portuguese academic community allows to involve the citizens of this location demonstrating the critical potential that the architecture project is capable of generating. Focusing on the relationship between the city, the industrial and logistics infra-structures of Sines, this exhibition brought fourteen architecture and landscape architecture schools. Which are the specificity of this southern territory?

Between 1973 and 1986, Sines was carried out its last great transformation by G.A.S. (Gabinete da Área de Sines) convening a wide range of practitioners from complementary disciplines who managed to design and build a huge port and industrial extension, with a new city. In 2016, for the first time, the same territory was the subject of a case study for the main architecture schools of Portugal.

After exhibiting at the Sinel de Cordes Palace for two months under the frame of Lisbon Architecture Triennale (2016), the showcase travels to Sines Art Center designed by Francisco and Manuel Mateus (Aires Mateus, 2012).
