Selected 18 proposals of the Universities Competition for Terra

The Lisbon Triennale Millennium bcp Universities Award Competition has narrowed down to 18 finalists the selection from 111 proposals received, in fields of study ranging from urbanism to landscape architecture and from biology to building technology. 15 schools and four research projects will be participating in the 6th edition of the Triennale, coming from ten different countries: Austria, Canada, Denmark, France, Ireland, Norway, Portugal, United Kingdom, United States of America, and Russia.

The quality of the submissions has made the jury expand the originally planned selection of twelve applications in the first stage of evaluation which ended in March 2022 to the total now presented. For the first time, the projects of over 80 participants will integrate Terra’s main exhibitions: four in Multiplicity, five in Retroactive, three in Cycles and six in Visionaries.

A second stage dedicated to further developing how participants will exhibit their work is now taking place, wherefrom two winning proposals in the master and research categories will be announced at the opening of the Triennale 2022 (September 29 – October 1). A digital publication with a more comprehensive selection of projects is in progress, also comprising an anthology of essays authored by the participating researchers. Produced in partnership with Circo de Ideias, it ensures a perennial legacy that amplifies the dissemination of knowledge compiled in this prize.

A final word of gratitude to the 46 schools who responded to this competition curated by Cristina Veríssimo and Diogo Burnay. We believe in the importance of such diversity, which is proof of the knowledge being generated in academia worldwide. We invite future generations of professionals to the public debate proposed by Terra in recognition of the role that universities play in society.
