Accessible children's book is finalist of the NEB Awards

Co-Production
Lisbon Architecture Triennale with the support of DG Artes.

On 10 May, it was announced that our accessible children's book is one of the 61 finalists of the New European Bauhaus Prizes 2023, in the Education Champions strand. Public voting on the finalists takes place until 24 May at 6pm (CET) to determine three of the fifteen winners, one for each strand.

Among the more than 1450 candidates to the NEB Awards, this editorial project to be launched in 2023 stands out for meeting the values of this European Union programme that promotes inclusiveness and sustainability.

A House is a Mountain is a Hat is a tactile illustrated album for 6 to 10 years old kids, with large letters and text in Braille that can be read by blind or low visio children. Funded by the Directorate-General for the Arts, the illustrations are by the publisher Planeta Tangerina and the tactile design by Locus Acesso.

How to vote

1. Go to the New European Bauhaus Prizes website and click on 'I vote for my favourite projects'.
2. Enter an email address and follow the link sent to your inbox.
3. Under the 'Education Champions' tab, select category '3. Prioritising the places and people that need it the most' and the project 'A house is a mountain is a hat'.
4. In order to submit, you will have to vote for projects in the other two categories ('Champions' and 'Rising Stars').

Six Portuguese projects are among the finalists, for being exemplary solutions of sustainability, aesthetics and inclusion, valuing the participation of local communities. In this third edition, our country is once again one of the most represented, having the same number of selected projects as France and only one less than Italy.

The announcement and award ceremony takes place during the 'New European Bauhaus in Regions and Cities' event in Brussels on 21 and 22 June 2023, at a forum for learning and exchanging experiences between individuals, institutions, municipalities and regions that have developed or are interested in developing NEB initiatives. This is also an excellent networking opportunity for participants, experts and practitioners.
