Desterro Hospital (1591 / 2017)

The former N.ª Senhora do Desterro monastery remains to this day as an architecture landmark for the history and heritage of the city. After a long occupation as a hospital (between 1857 and 2007), the building will now be open to the city for a period of ten years. The first renovation (cleaning and demolition) work was conducted in 2015 and disclosed an extraordinary building, which now waits a second phase of structural reinforcement and adjustment to its new functions.
