About the Persistence of Forms: “Atlas of Forms”

Path-and-Passages-24

A set of three encounters at the exhibition that will have the purpose of reflecting and broadening some of its fundamental concepts.

Essayist António Guerreiro tells us that a problematic idea of form pervades all of modern art, in such a way that the notion of formalism was often used as a condemnation (particularly by totalitarian regimes, which have always exacerbated the traditional form/content dichotomy) or as a designation of the reflective and open character of form, the form of form, in which it no longer answers to the rigid idea of totality, as was the case in its classic understanding. The question of form became, therefore, also a question of the forces and the formulas, of which a grammar can be deduced as well as an atlas of its aesthetic figurations.
