Other Lisbon – Amadora

amadora

Amadora was recognized as a city in the 90’s of the XX century. Today, together with Vila Nova de Gaia it’s the fourth most populated city in Portugal. Which says a lot about the coastal urbanization of our country. The intention of placing ourselves in the centre of Amadora and crossing it’s streets is connected with the immense contradictions between the statistic and administrative definitions of city and the social, cultural and economic place of this municipality in the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon. So we will try to understand places built during the XX century, which are consolidated urban spaces and where we can think about our perception of quality of life and what is the good way of building a city. Although this case, stays in the vulnerable side of the interdependence between the metropolitan center and the peripheral cities.
