The Laboratory of Immediate Architectural Intervention (LiAi) is structured around the idea of architectural intervention, interrogated in relationship to its duration and effects in and around the community where it takes place; indeed, in its potential to create community. Whilst the programme’s approach can be related to certain artistic practices, it is rooted in an understanding of spatial conceptualization and production as the architect´s most important skill. The approach questions divisions between theory and practice, and encourages students to engage simultaneously with philosophies and technologies, critical thinking and hands-on making, with the aim of developing alternative, socially and ethically committed practices.
