University of Évora – Department of Architecture (PT)

The University of Évora started offering Master’s Courses in Architecture in the academic year 2001/2002 through its Department of Architecture. Together with the Department of Visual Arts and Design, the Department of Scenic Arts and the Department of Music, it is now an integral part of the School of the Arts. This unique academic environment is propitious to a truly multidisciplinary approach, from which the architectural courses benefit in particular, making this Integrated Master’s programme truly innovative in Portugal.
The teaching staff is made up of distinguished PhD scholars and renowned architects with a national and international projection.
The Department offers a five-year degree programme in architecture (BA+MA), with emphasis in the final years on advanced architectural studies. The programme seeks to offer a balance between theoretical and practical studies and is divided into 10 semesters. Learning is based on a strong culture of Design Studios, where students and teachers work together to tackle challenging projects, thus creating an exemplary relationship between education and applied research. The School of the Arts and the Department of Architecture have organized several international workshops and lecture series, and are today recognized as a major platform for discussion of some of the key issues in contemporary architectural culture.
