Filomena is the winner of the Joaquim de Almeida Prize 2019

On past 9 November, the short film Filomena that is part of Lisbon Acts was announced as the winner of the Joaquim de Almeida Prize and awarded for the best cast in the frame of Ymotion Festival 2019. This is the fifth edition of the Cinema Festival of Famalicão organized by the City Hall of this city located up North of Portugal, recognizing the Lisbon-based film director Pedro Cabeleira of 27 years old, This short results from an invitation to Cabeleira by the Lisbon Triennale to commission a film for a traveling exhibition, entitled Lisbon Acts. The story takes place in six architecture projects built for the Portuguese capital: A gigantic tower block, a bar in a garden, an intervention on a river boat station, a meditation centre, a church and a private apartment.

This festival is commissioned by the Portuguese cinema critic Rui Tendinha, and has becomed a diffusion platform for the new productions of Portuguese cinema. Beyond the awards, its programme is also made up of a number of initiatives such as workshops, lectures and film screenings. In 2019, the Ymotion - Festival de Cinema Jovem de Famalicão (Famalicão Youth Film Festival) is getting more international having established tan exchange with the Sao Paulo International Short Film Festival as one of the largest short film festivals in the world. Thus, the film shown at the 5th edition will be exhibited in Brazil next November 2019.
