Following the Aqueduct form the Amoreiras Square where is ends the visibility of this structure, we could think that as fast as we feel central and urban we can feel peripheral or rural … In this walk we will put together all these ideas and question the concepts of center and periphery as well as town and countryside.
The Aqueduct will be the Ariadne’s thread of a new perspective debating the different constructions of modernity and modern city. Illustrated by the observation of such distinct projects as the Aqueduct itself, Amoreiras Square, the A5 motorway and Duarte Pacheco’s Viaduct, The Amoreiras Towers and the infra-structuration of Alcântara Valley.
We will show you the Aqueduct’s aerial view of the Alcântara Valley and the South-North view from the April 25 bridge till Odivelas (a municipality in the North of Lisbon) but also the coexistence of the industrial spacial structure built since the XVIII century , with the construction of the Pombalino Plan for Amoreiras and Campolide area and it’s contemporary Architectural and urban reality of a place of services and housing.
